Subaru is recalling 541,237 vehicles in the United States because their certification labels display an incorrect weight rating for the rear axle. The error could cause owners to believe their vehicles can safely carry more weight than the rear axle was designed to support.
The recall includes certain Subaru Ascent, Forester, Forester Hybrid and Crosstrek Hybrid models. Although the problem does not involve a defective engine, brake component or suspension part, federal regulators warn that inaccurate weight information could contribute to overloading and increase the risk of a crash.
Subaru has not reported any crashes or injuries linked to the labeling error. The company plans to send affected owners corrected certification labels that can be installed at home or applied by a Subaru dealership free of charge.
Which Subaru Vehicles Are Included in the Recall?
The recall covers certain 2019 through 2026 Subaru Ascent SUVs, 2025 and 2026 Subaru Forester models, 2025 and 2026 Forester Hybrids and 2026 Crosstrek Hybrids. The total recall population is 541,237 vehicles in the United States.
Not every vehicle from those model years is necessarily affected. Eligibility depends on the specific vehicle identification number and the certification label installed during production.

Subaru’s internal recall number is WRH-26. Owners contacting the company or a dealership can reference that number when asking about the campaign.
Drivers do not need to wait for a letter before checking their VIN. Vehicle-registration records may be outdated when someone has recently moved, purchased a used vehicle or failed to update an address.
