Samsung used its July 22, 2026, Galaxy Unpacked event in London to introduce five major devices: three foldable smartphones and two smartwatches.
The new lineup consists of the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy Z Flip8, Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9. Together, they show Samsung dividing its products more clearly by lifestyle. One Fold targets maximum productivity, another prioritizes entertainment and portability, and the Flip focuses on compact everyday interaction. The watches follow a similar strategy, with one built for demanding outdoor activity and the other designed for continuous health tracking.
Samsung also previewed upcoming intelligent eyewear during the event, but the five devices immediately joining its mainstream Galaxy hardware portfolio are the three foldables and two watches. 1. Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra Brings the Ultra Name to Foldables
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is the headline product because it is Samsung’s first foldable phone to carry the Ultra name. It is intended for buyers who want the company’s most advanced foldable camera, largest workspace and strongest performance package.
When opened, the device provides an 8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display. Despite that large screen, it measures 4.1 millimeters thick when unfolded and weighs 215 grams. Samsung has also introduced its Flex Titanium display structure, which uses titanium-based materials to support a thinner foldable design while improving impact absorption and reducing the visibility of the central crease.
Photography is one of the clearest differences between the Ultra and the standard Fold8. The Ultra includes a 200-megapixel main camera and a new 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera capable of wider scenes and macro photography. It also supports improved low-light recording, 8K video using Samsung’s APV codec and Cine LUT controls for creators who want more influence over color and tone. The phone uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor and carries a 5,000mAh battery. A dual-path charging system supports 45-watt charging, while a larger graphite cooling structure is designed to manage heat during gaming, video editing and AI-assisted multitasking.
In the United States, the Fold8 Ultra starts at $2,099.99. It is available with 256GB, 512GB or 1TB of storage, placing it firmly at the premium end of the foldable market.
2. Galaxy Z Fold8 Introduces a Wider Everyday Foldable
The regular Galaxy Z Fold8 is not simply a less expensive Ultra. Samsung has given it a different shape intended to make viewing, reading and gaming feel more natural.
Its 5.4-inch cover display uses a familiar 10:16 ratio for messaging, social media and quick interactions. Opening the device reveals a 7.6-inch screen with a wider 4:3 format. That shape can reduce empty display space in supported content applications and works particularly well for videos, games, digital books and articles.
At 201 grams, the Fold8 is Samsung’s lightest Galaxy Z Fold so far. It uses the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy platform as the Ultra but has a slightly smaller 4,800mAh battery. Its main and ultra-wide cameras both use 50-megapixel sensors, giving the standard model a more balanced camera arrangement than previous Fold generations.
Samsung is also promoting Dual Recording, which can capture the person filming and the subject simultaneously. My FanCam automatically follows a selected subject and reframes the recording into a chosen aspect ratio, potentially reducing the amount of editing required before posting a video.
The Fold8 is likely to attract buyers who want a large folding display but do not need the Ultra’s 200-megapixel camera or maximum-size workspace. 3. Galaxy Z Flip8 Makes the Cover Screen More Useful
The Galaxy Z Flip8 remains Samsung’s compact foldable, but much of its improvement is concentrated on the outside of the phone.
Its FlexWindow cover display can show applications, personalized information and suggested actions without requiring the phone to be opened. Now Brief presents relevant updates on the home screen, while Gemini Intelligence can be activated through the side button or spoken requests. Samsung’s intention is to turn the cover screen into a genuine everyday interface rather than a basic notification panel.
The Flip8 weighs 180 grams and measures 6.1 millimeters thick when unfolded, making it Samsung’s lightest and thinnest Galaxy Z Flip to date. Its internal display measures 6.9 inches and supports an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz.
The device also places considerable emphasis on self-recording. A 50-megapixel camera works with the ProVisual Engine, while Flex Mode allows the phone to stand at different angles without a tripod. Camcorder Grip and Zoom Rocker improve one-handed video control, and Horizontal Lock helps keep moving footage level.
Samsung appears to be targeting creators, frequent social-media users and buyers who value compactness more than a tablet-sized display. 4. Galaxy Watch Ultra2 Targets Serious Outdoor Use
The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 is Samsung’s most rugged and technically ambitious smartwatch.
It uses a 47-millimeter titanium case and introduces an 800mAh battery, representing a 35% increase in capacity over the previous Watch Ultra. Samsung has reduced the device’s thickness by 12% despite the larger battery, helping it sit more comfortably during continuous wear.
The display can reach a localized peak brightness of 5,000 nits in strong ambient light. The watch also uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear Elite platform and provides 64GB of storage.
Outdoor features include detailed trail-running information, elevation monitoring and hydration recommendations based partly on estimated sweat loss. Its diving capabilities distinguish it from most everyday smartwatches. The Ultra2 carries IP69K and 10ATM ratings and has obtained EN13319 certification for diving instruments. It can display depth, water temperature and elapsed dive time, while additional diving functions developed with equipment company Mares are expected later in 2026. 5. Galaxy Watch9 Focuses on Everyday Health Tracking
The Galaxy Watch9 is the more approachable wearable in the new range. It is available in 40-millimeter and 44-millimeter sizes, with lighter aluminum construction and a thinner profile than the outdoor-focused Ultra2.
The 40-millimeter version uses a 390mAh battery, while the 44-millimeter model increases that capacity to 445mAh. Both sizes use the Snapdragon Wear Elite processor and provide 32GB of storage. Their Super AMOLED displays can reach up to 3,000 nits, making information easier to read outdoors.
Samsung has positioned the watch as a continuous wellness companion rather than a specialist sports instrument. New or expanded features include Vitals monitoring, Heart Health Score, Daily Cardio Load, Fitness Index, hearing-protection alerts and sleep-apnea insights in supported markets. These functions use data from Samsung’s BioActive sensor to identify patterns and turn them into more understandable guidance.

Samsung Is Building Different Devices for Different Priorities
The July 2026 Unpacked lineup demonstrates that Samsung is no longer treating every foldable buyer or smartwatch user as the same type of customer.
The Fold8 Ultra focuses on professional multitasking and content creation. The Fold8 offers a lighter, wider format for entertainment and everyday versatility. The Flip8 prioritizes compactness, style and quick cover-screen interaction.
