After years of speculation, leaked material and record-breaking trailer attention, Grand Theft Auto VI is now scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026. Rockstar Games previously targeted 2025 and later May 26, 2026, before moving the release to its current date to allow additional development time. Parent company Take-Two Interactive continues to list the November launch in its financial expectations, providing stronger confirmation than an unofficial retailer date or online rumour. (Rockstar Games’ official release update)
The game will arrive more than 13 years after the original release of Grand Theft Auto V. Rockstar describes the sequel as the largest and most immersive evolution of the series, although the studio has not yet released detailed technical specifications, a complete gameplay demonstration or the final size of the playable map.
GTA 6 Returns to Vice City and Expands Across Leonida
The game takes place in Leonida, Rockstar’s fictional version of Florida. Vice City is the main urban centre, but the world extends well beyond its beaches, hotels, nightlife and neon-lit commercial districts.
Rockstar has confirmed several surrounding regions through the official GTA 6 world and character page. These include the tropical Leonida Keys, the industrial town of Ambrosia, the coastal community of Port Gellhorn, the wetland region called Grassrivers and Mount Kalaga National Park. The officially released screenshots also show highways, marinas, swamps, forests, small towns, waterways and heavily populated city streets.
The first two trailers suggest that Leonida will present a modern parody of Florida culture. Social-media clips, viral personalities, unusual wildlife, parties, police footage, street racing and excessive public behaviour appear throughout the promotional material. These scenes confirm the game’s contemporary setting, although they do not establish that every activity shown will become a playable mechanic. (Rockstar’s official GTA 6 videos)
Jason and Lucia Lead the Story
The central characters are Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. Rockstar’s story description explains that an apparently simple criminal job goes wrong, drawing them into a conspiracy extending across Leonida. They must rely on each other while attempting to survive the consequences.
Lucia has recently been released from prison and appears determined to build a different future. Jason has experience around criminals and drug runners but wants something more secure. Their romantic and criminal partnership has led to comparisons with Bonnie and Clyde, although Rockstar has not officially used that description or explained how switching between them will work.
The trailers show both characters participating in robberies, driving, socialising and planning criminal activity. However, Rockstar has not confirmed whether players can switch between Jason and Lucia freely, whether some missions will lock players to one character or whether cooperative story play will be supported.
Several Supporting Characters Have Been Confirmed
Leonida will contain a larger network of criminals, business owners, musicians and unusual local personalities. Cal Hampton is Jason’s conspiracy-focused friend, while Brian Heder is an older smuggler who operates from a boatyard in the Keys.
Boobie Ike controls interests in property, music and nightlife. Dre’Quan Priest is attempting to build Only Raw Records, while the rap duo Real Dimez hopes to regain viral success. Raul Bautista is an experienced bank robber whose increasingly dangerous plans could pull Jason and Lucia into more ambitious crimes. These profiles indicate that music, robberies, smuggling, nightlife and criminal businesses will all influence the story. (Official GTA 6 character profiles)
Rockstar has not disclosed the complete cast, mission structure or performers behind every character. Familiar brands and references from earlier GTA games appear in promotional images, but no major returning protagonist has been confirmed.
What the Trailers Reveal About Gameplay
Rockstar has not yet released a traditional narrated gameplay demonstration. Most confirmed information comes from cinematic scenes, brief action sequences, screenshots and store descriptions.
The footage shows robberies, police pursuits, motorbikes, boats, aircraft, nightclubs, gyms, beaches, hunting areas and numerous vehicles. Characters can apparently customise clothing, hairstyles, tattoos, weapons and cars, with several of these systems specifically mentioned in the Ultimate Edition’s official description.
The world appears substantially denser than GTA V, with larger crowds, detailed interiors and more varied wildlife. Trailer 2 was captured on a PlayStation 5, proving that the footage was not presented as a high-end PC version. However, Rockstar has not confirmed the final resolution, frame rate, graphics modes or performance differences between the available consoles.
Confirmed Platforms and the Missing PC Version
At launch, GTA 6 will be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. It will not launch on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. The PlayStation version is listed as PS5 Pro Enhanced and will use features including DualSense haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, 3D audio and the console’s SSD. (Official PlayStation GTA 6 page)
A PC edition has not been officially announced. Rockstar has historically released several major games on PC after their console debuts, but that history does not confirm a GTA 6 PC date. Until Rockstar or Take-Two names the platform, any suggested PC launch window remains speculation.
GTA 6 Pricing and Available Editions
In the United Kingdom, the Xbox Store lists the Standard Edition at £69.99 and the Ultimate Edition at £89.99. Players who purchase the Standard Edition can buy the Ultimate Edition Upgrade separately for £20.00. Prices may differ by platform, retailer and region. (Official Xbox UK listing)
The Standard Edition includes the main game. Purchases made before November 20, 2026, also include the Vintage Vice City Pack, featuring a 1955 Vapid Stanier, a garage, period-inspired outfits and hairstyles, and a tropical weapon pattern referencing the original Vice City. Eligible digital pre-orders also include one month of GTA+.
The Ultimate Edition adds vehicles, weapons, clothing, customisation options and activities integrated into Jason and Lucia’s story. Its content includes a Grotti Cheetah, personalised weapons, safehouse vehicles, a kayak, an off-road buggy, specialist modification shops, a salon, a tattoo studio and additional missions involving illegal goods and classic-car restoration. These are story-mode extras rather than confirmation of a separate GTA 6 online economy.
Preloading and Physical Copies Work Differently
Digital preloading begins on November 12, one week before release. Rockstar and Take-Two have also stated that the physical package will contain a download code rather than a game disc, allowing buyers to begin downloading from the same date. This means the boxed version requires an internet connection and should not be treated as a traditional disc-based physical copy. (Take-Two’s official preorder announcement)
What Is Known About GTA 6 Online?
Rockstar’s current store descriptions identify Grand Theft Auto VI as a single-player experience. The company has not formally revealed a new version of GTA Online, its launch date or whether it will be included with the base game.
The GTA+ preorder offer relates to the existing GTA Online service and Rockstar’s rotating games library. It should not be interpreted as confirmation of GTA 6 multiplayer features. Considering the continuing commercial importance of GTA Online, a future online component appears plausible, but its structure, pricing and release strategy remain unconfirmed.
Important Details Rockstar Has Not Revealed
Several major questions remain unanswered. Rockstar has not confirmed the complete map size, campaign length, system requirements for PC, console frame rates, file size, radio-station list, full vehicle selection or detailed wanted-system mechanics.
The studio has also not shown an extended unedited mission. As a result, claims about fully enterable buildings, advanced artificial intelligence, destructible environments, dynamic weather disasters or unusually realistic police behaviour should be treated cautiously unless they come directly from Rockstar.
What is confirmed already points towards a large modern crime story built around Jason and Lucia, spanning Vice City and the wider state of Leonida. With the November 19 release approaching, the next major reveal is likely to focus less on the world’s atmosphere and more on how players will actually interact with it.
