Google Nest and Netgear are two of the most recognisable names in whole-home Wi-Fi, but neither currently holds the top position on Amazon’s mesh networking bestseller chart. That distinction belongs to the TP-Link Deco X55, a three-unit Wi-Fi 6 system designed to eliminate dead zones without charging the premium prices associated with newer Wi-Fi 7 hardware.
As of early August 2026, the TP-Link Deco X55 ranked first in Amazon’s Whole Home and Mesh Wi-Fi Systems category. Amazon also showed that more than 6,000 units had been purchased during the previous month, while the product maintained a 4.4-star rating from approximately 13,000 customer reviews.
Amazon bestseller rankings can change frequently as prices, promotions and purchasing activity shift. Even so, the Deco X55’s current position reveals what many households actually prioritise: useful coverage, simple installation, enough speed for everyday devices and a price that remains within reach.
The Bestseller Is the TP-Link Deco X55
The Deco X55 is a dual-band AX3000 mesh system built around Wi-Fi 6 rather than the newer Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7 standards. The three-pack was recently listed at approximately $189.99, while two-unit and single-unit packages were available for households requiring less coverage. Prices may change without notice, particularly during Amazon promotions.
Its sales success is notable because the product competes against familiar systems from Amazon Eero, Google Nest, Netgear Orbi and Asus ZenWiFi. Those alternatives may offer advantages in specific areas, but many are more expensive or provide technology that the average household may not yet need.
TP-Link has positioned the X55 as a practical whole-home upgrade rather than a premium networking showcase. The system promises broad coverage, strong capacity for connected devices and an app-guided installation process that does not require advanced networking knowledge.
That combination gives it a wider potential market than a high-end mesh kit costing $500, $700 or even $1,000.
Three Units Can Cover a Large Home
TP-Link claims that the three-pack can provide mesh coverage across as much as 6,500 square feet. A two-pack is rated for up to 4,500 square feet, while additional compatible Deco units can be added when a property requires further expansion.
Those numbers should be treated as maximum manufacturer estimates rather than guaranteed results. Actual Wi-Fi range depends on wall construction, floor layout, interference, node placement and the number of obstacles between a device and the nearest Deco unit.
A modern open-plan home may achieve strong coverage with fewer nodes. An older building containing brick walls, concrete floors, metal insulation or unusual extensions may require more careful positioning.
The advantage of mesh networking is that the system does not depend entirely on one router reaching every room. One Deco connects to the modem, while the remaining units are placed elsewhere in the home. They work together as one network, allowing compatible phones, laptops and other devices to move between coverage areas without requiring separate network names.
TP-Link’s official Deco X55 product information states that the system can support more than 150 connected devices. That figure is another theoretical maximum, but it makes the system relevant to homes containing televisions, cameras, speakers, appliances, game consoles and numerous smart-home devices.
AX3000 Speed Is More Than Enough for Many Households
The AX3000 designation refers to a combined theoretical wireless capacity of approximately 3,000 Mbps across the system’s two frequency bands. TP-Link lists up to 2,402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz.
Those figures do not mean that one device will receive a 3 Gbps internet connection. They represent ideal laboratory link rates distributed across the available bands. Real performance will be lower because of distance, interference, client hardware, internet-plan limits and network overhead.
The Deco X55’s speeds are nevertheless sufficient for many common household requirements. Multiple users can stream video, attend video calls, browse the web and connect smart devices without needing the extreme capacity of an expensive Wi-Fi 7 system.
The system also supports 160 MHz channels on compatible devices, which can increase short-range throughput under suitable network conditions. However, the connected phone or computer must support the relevant Wi-Fi 6 features, and regulatory or environmental conditions may limit channel availability.
Households with internet plans below 1 Gbps are unlikely to gain an obvious everyday benefit from paying substantially more for multi-gigabit wireless specifications alone. Reliable signal strength across the home may matter more than an exceptionally high speed measured beside the primary router.
Ethernet Ports Make the X55 More Flexible
Each Deco X55 unit includes three auto-sensing Gigabit Ethernet ports. A three-pack therefore provides nine ports in total, although one port on the primary unit will normally be used to connect the system to the modem or internet gateway.
These connections can be used for televisions, desktop computers, network switches or game consoles that benefit from a stable wired link. They also allow the Deco units to use Ethernet backhaul.
With wireless backhaul, the nodes communicate with one another over Wi-Fi. With Ethernet backhaul, network traffic between nodes travels through cables. Wired backhaul can improve consistency because it reduces reliance on the same wireless spectrum used by connected devices.
The inclusion of three ports per node is particularly useful when compared with compact mesh systems that provide only one or two Ethernet connections. However, every X55 port is limited to Gigabit speed. Buyers with internet plans above 1 Gbps will not be able to pass the full multi-gigabit connection through a single X55 Ethernet port.
That limitation makes the system less attractive for advanced users with 2.5 Gbps or faster fiber service. A Wi-Fi 7 model with multi-gigabit ports would be more appropriate for those environments.
Setup Is Designed for Nontechnical Users
The Deco X55 is managed primarily through TP-Link’s Deco mobile app. The app guides the user through connecting the first unit to the modem, creating the network and adding the remaining nodes.
Once installed, the system provides a single Wi-Fi name across the property. Compatible devices can move between nodes while the network attempts to direct them toward the strongest available connection.
TP-Link also includes HomeShield tools for network management, device prioritisation, security monitoring and parental controls. The manufacturer’s HomeShield overview within the X55 specifications confirms that a free basic plan is included, while some advanced functions require a paid Pro subscription.
That subscription structure is worth considering before purchase. The router will continue to provide normal Wi-Fi without a paid plan, but families expecting a complete collection of advanced security and parental-control features may face an additional recurring cost.
Why It Outsells Google Nest and Netgear Systems
The Deco X55 does not lead every performance category. It is not the fastest mesh system available, it lacks a 6 GHz band and it does not include multi-gigabit Ethernet. Its popularity appears to come from balancing the features most households need at a competitive price.
A three-node kit for around $190 can cover a larger property for less than many premium two-unit systems. The three Gigabit ports on every node add flexibility, while Wi-Fi 6 remains compatible with both older devices and current mainstream phones, computers and smart-home products.
The compact cylindrical units are also easier to place around a home than some of Netgear’s larger Orbi hardware. Buyers do not need to hide oversized router towers or reserve much shelf space for each satellite.
Independent testing does not necessarily identify the X55 as the best mesh system available in 2026. RTINGS currently ranks the newer TP-Link Deco BE63 as its top tested option because of its Wi-Fi 7 performance, 6 GHz band and 2.5 Gbps Ethernet ports. That system, however, targets a higher performance and price category.
Amazon’s bestseller position reflects purchasing volume rather than laboratory superiority. It shows which product is attracting the most buyers, not which system will deliver the highest possible speed in every home.
The Deco X55 Still Has Important Limitations
The system’s dual-band design means that it uses only 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi. It does not provide the cleaner 6 GHz spectrum available with Wi-Fi 6E and many Wi-Fi 7 routers.
Wireless mesh performance can also decline when devices connect through a satellite rather than the primary unit, particularly when the node itself has a weak connection. Correct placement remains essential. Adding more nodes does not automatically improve performance if they are too far apart or positioned behind dense obstructions.
Professional reviewers have generally praised the X55’s value and ease of use, but some testing has identified occasional connection or update problems. WIRED found it faster than TP-Link’s less expensive Deco X20, though the publication also noted that more complete security and parental controls require subscriptions.
These weaknesses do not make the Deco X55 a poor product. They clarify the type of household it suits best.
Amazon’s Bestseller Is a Value Choice, Not a Future-Proof Flagship
The TP-Link Deco X55 makes the strongest case for households struggling with dead zones, inconsistent upstairs coverage or an overloaded ISP router. It offers three nodes, broad claimed coverage, Wi-Fi 6 capacity and a generous number of Ethernet ports without entering premium-router pricing.
A smaller home with strong coverage from one centrally located router may not need a mesh system at all. A household with multi-gigabit fiber, many Wi-Fi 7 devices or demanding local-network workloads may be better served by newer hardware.
For everyone between those extremes, the Deco X55 explains why Amazon shoppers are choosing it over more famous alternatives. It does not attempt to be the most advanced mesh system on the market. It delivers the features most people recognise as useful, packages them into an approachable three-unit kit and keeps the price close to that of a traditional standalone router.
Google Nest and Netgear may have stronger brand recognition in mesh Wi-Fi, but Amazon’s current sales chart belongs to TP-Link.
